I stumbled upon this “nice” image of how to delete a shortcut from your desktop in Windows Vista, to be seen here (originally found here).
I don’t know if this is a fake or real, but let’s pretend it’s the latter one. Beside the fact that the need for seven steps is absolutely ridiculous, it also points out some serious usability issues.
- There is absolutely no consistency in the labeling of the buttons. We have Yes/No, Continue/Skip/Cancel (heck, I wonder what that Skip button does…), and Permit/Deny.
- The dialogs are all styled differently, which makes it hard to differ them.
- Icons are placed at random: Why does the Continue button has a icon while the others don’t?
- Inconsistency in the procedure: Why does Vista tell me that this specific shortcut can’t be moved to the Recycle Bin, while it’s possible at a later step?
Oh and don’t forget that this whole procedure is for a very simple action – just deleting a shortcut. I wonder how many steps it will take to make more complex actions; I don’t wanna know how many times I got asked when I want to move that shortcut somewhere else…
Oh, by the way, it’s just a matter of pressing DEL on your keyboard with Gnome. But that’s another story…

This is just one of the so many coming glitches for Vista. It’s part of a new OS’s birth all the time.
PS: I’m thinking of learning German. Seems to be a beautiful language. ;)
