Well, it’s only 13 days left, so I thought I throw in a small progress report and give you some hints on what you can expect.
First of all, I believe that the CSS Reboot is about writing your own stylesheet, respectively designing your own website. Apparently, I’m not good at it. I mean, I have no idea how to use Photoshop and I’m just covering the basics with Fireworks – every time I visit some tutorial sites, I’m quite amazed about what’s really possible with this product. But the most important fact: I’m lacking creativity.
So, I’ve started to surf around, digging through all those CSS galleries, tried this idea, failed with that idea, you know the drill. There was this one time where I got inspired by Matt Bretts website, well made grunge style. But then I realized, if I let myself be inspired by this site, it will be just some sort of copy. And what I really want is to have something unique, something to recognize me at. So I tried about five or six different design approaches, which did not satisfy me – they just sucked, because of the visuals. I mean, after all, you, the owner of the website, should be the one who’s satisfied with the product in the end. Sure, it’s all about the visitors, but if you don’t like your own website, there’s the risk that this will also apply to the content.
So, I thought about it for one or two days. What do I want? I realized that for about half a year, I mainly surfed around websites with, let’s say cool or cold colors. A light or dark blue, greenish, pink’s in, red, and of course black and white. It’s kinda hard to describe, let’s say they all had this polished, professional look.
My primary color will be orange. A bright orange.
Speaking about professional: To me, blogging is fun, it’s not my life. Sure, I’ve given some examples on what can I achieve or help other people here and there, but in the end, I consider myself a person with lust for life, who just wants to have as much fun as possible. This doesn’t mean that all those other bloggers are dead serious persons, but I figured my website should reflect my personality in some way.
Moo.
When it comes down to the technique, the new layout will be fluid/jelly/variable/whatever you call it, just because I never had done this before, and I just want to see if I’m capable of producing one. You could shrink it to about 670 pixels and it will extend to about 2500 pixels – although you really don’t want to do that. It’s not completely fluid, yeah, but it’s the best that I could achieve.
The decision for this design felt three days ago, after eight other approaches. This brings me to two points: First, I have to be really fast, if I want to have something on May 1st. I guess I’ll release it as a beta to be truly web two point d’oh! :-) And second, expect some WordPress themes to be released after all this is over…
This brings me to the end of this update. I’m sorry if I can’t give you a sneak peak, but I’m still in the process of developing the visuals, and like I wrote above, I suck when it comes to graphics. And it also keeps the tense, you know?
